21st Armored Car Section of Imperial
Russian Army
The 21st Armored Cars Section was a unit pertaining of the 4th Division Armored Cars ["Armored Car Divizion"] (броневой автомобильный дивизион or also автопулемётный взвод) formed by sections [old platoons (*)] 14 th, 21 th, 24 th and 39 th. This "Divizion" was added to the 4th Army.
The 4th "Divizion" consisted of a total of 14 armored cars:
4 x Austin I
4 x Austin II
3 x Garford
1 x Lanchester Russian Pattern (Hotchkiss 37-mm Gun).
2 x Renault (Box) M1914. It was the French armored model Renault Auto-Mitrailleuse of 1914 that Russia imported forty units without weapons. The Russians renamed it Renault "Box", by being designed without turret and with the open sky. Some of these vehicles were used as base (chassis) to create new models of armored cars.
Note: In 1917, was added 2 Fiat-Izhorsky to cover the losses of two Austin II.
(*) Since mid-1916 the platoons were renamed sections, following the organizational criterion remained in the continental armies (from one side or another) that gave the superior category to section on the peloton, unlike the criteria established in Great Britain and the United States.

Russian Austin Armored Car 1st Series called “Slav” «Славянин» belonging
to the 21st Automobile Machine Gun Platoon.
“Diamond” «Алмаз», the other Austin Mk. I of 21st
Platoon. It was equipped with two periscopes, one with forward vision and the
other backward.
Note, above the driver's cab, improvised installation
of a periscope of trench type.This would be used only during the combat
actions.
The third vehicle that completed the 21st Platoon was
a Garford-Putilov called "Knight" «Витязь».

Ejército Imperial Ruso
La 21ª
Sección de Coches Blindados era una unidad perteneciente a la 4ª Divizión de
Coches Blindados ["Armored Car Divizion"] (броневой автомобильный дивизион ó
también автопулемётный взвод )
formada por las secciones [antiguos pelotones (*)] 14ª, 21ª, 24ª y 39ª. Esta
"Divizion" estaba agregada al 4ª Ejército.
La 4ª
"Divizion" estaba compuesta por un total de 14 coches
blindados:
4 x Austin I
4 x Austin II
3 x Garford
1 x Lanchester “Estilo Ruso” (Con cañón Hotchkiss de 37-mm).
2 x Renault
(Caja) M1914. Se trataba del modelo blindado francés Renault Auto-Mitrailleuse
de 1914 de los que Russia importó cuarenta unidades sin armamento. Los rusos lo
rebautizaron como Renault “Caja”, por estar diseñado sin torreta y con el cielo
abierto. Algunos de estos vehículos se utilizaron como base (chasis) para crear
nuevos modelos de coches blindados.
Nota: En
1917 se agregaron 2 Fiat-Izhorsky para cubrir las bajas de 2 Austin II.
(*) Desde
mediados de 1916 los pelotones pasaron a denominarse secciones, siguiendo el
criterio organizativo mantenido en los ejércitos continentales (de un bando u
otro) que daban categoría superior a la sección sobre el pelotón, al contrario
del criterio establecido en Gran Bretaña y Estados Unidos.

Coche
Blindado Austin de la 1ª Serie ruso, llamado "Eslavo" «Славянин»
perteneciente al 21º Pelotón de Auto-Ametralladoras.
"Diamante"
«Алмаз», el otro Austin de la 1ª Serie perteneciente al 21º Pelotón. Estaba
equipado con dos periscopios, uno para visión frontal y otro para visión
trasera (entre las dos torretas).
Véase,
encima de la cabina del conductor, la instalación improvisada de un periscopio del
tipo utilizado en las trincheras. Éste se utilizaba sólo durante las acciones
de combate.
El tercer
vehículo que completaba el 21º Pelotón era un Garford-Putilov llamado
"Caballero" «Витязь».
