ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY IN THE WWI

11 September 2019

A German anti-aircraft gun 7,62-cm Räderflak L/30 (russ 02). Belgium 1917-18.

A German anti-aircraft gun: The 7,62-cm Räderflak L/30 (russ 02).
Belgian coast, 1917-18.

This is the transformation by Krupp of the 76.2-mm L/30 M1902 Russian Putilov field gun, turning it into an anti-aircraft gun, in this case fixed on a two-wheeled carriage: the 7.62-cm L/30 Räderflak (russ 02). 120 pieces were transformed between March and June 1917.

With a design reminiscent of the 7.7-cm anti-aircraft gun "Räder B.A.K." [Räderflak from mid-1916] L/35 (fraz 97) Krupp M1915 and also the 7.62-cm Räderflak L/30 (russ 00) Krupp M1916, however had better technical characteristics.

See in my main Blog: Armored Cars in the WWI, the following two posts:

**********

Austro-Hungarian Anti-Aircraft Vehicle Ehrhardt-Skoda 8-cm L/35.

Austro-Hungarian Anti-Aircraft Vehicle Ehrhardt-Skoda 8-cm L/35.
(Registration number: A.XII.592)

Note: Observe the two curved masts on the vehicle, the one on the right with an electric lamp installed, which would facilitate the night air defense.

Deployed, along with other pieces, for the antiaircraft defense of an important industrial zone, in the area of the 12th Army.
This equipped with two electric lamps, whose illumination of the combat chamber, would facilitate the crew the possibility of night anti-aircraft combat. I have seen in other Austro-Hungarian anti-aircraft guns, in photographs taken in 1918, the same lamps for night shooting, so the scene I present here must be of that same year or the end of 1917. Dates that also coincide with the increase in aerial raids and the allied capacity to carry out night bombers to "strategic" areas, in 1917-1918.

Also used in 1914 as a "rare antiaircraft transition vehicle" armed with a 7.7-cm L / 27 Krupp cannon.
Chassis for anti-aircraft vehicles armed only with Krupp guns of other calibers.
Few manufactured units, some models without cannon were used during the war as tractors in the Flak units.

Chasis Daimler Modelo 1913.

The Zouaves with a 8-mm. Saint Étienne Machine Gun Model 1907. Northern France, 1914.

Note:

This photo and others like it, taken during maneuvers immediately preceding the outbreak of war, were reproduced in graphs magazines and postcards to illustrate the first battles of August 1914.

For this reason, maybe the photograph I have colored above corresponds to one of the mentioned maneuvers. In any case, my purpose remains valid when publishing this photograph: reflect the exoticism of the Zouaves uniforms.
